Common Life Agreement

New legislation grants both heterosexual and homosexual couples the right to manage their legal relationship within the framework of a ‘communal life agreement’ (contrat de vie commune), which can be supplemented by a separate property agreement (convention d’organisation patrimoniale), individual Wills and can extend to the adoption children.

There are certain formalities that must be followed, for example the agreement must be prepared by a notary, and there are limitations as it is not intended to replace the institution of marriage.
