Andorra: Project for an international airport

18/03/2021
The Andorra Chamber of Commerce and Industry has unveiled a project for an international airport on Grau Roig, near Pas-de-la-Case. The airport could handle 500,000 passengers per year.

While the Principality is one of the few countries in the world without an airport, this project would be a real technical feat and one of the highest airports in Europe at an altitude of 2000m.

The objective for Andorra is to "open up" the territory (as today the Principality is only accessible by road), but also to develop its luxury tourism, with visitors coming from Russia, the Gulf Monarchies or even Asia thanks to winter airlines.

Several steps still need to be taken to get the approval of the Andorran government, such as the environmental study that will be carried out in the next few months - although the impact will be very limited as the airport will use existing roads and 44% of the budget will be spent on rehabilitating the area once the work is completed.
An economic study will also be carried out, and several international companies have already expressed interest in taking over the airport concession and part of the construction costs (estimated at €344 million).

If the project is completed, the first aircraft could land and take off from Andorra in 2024 or 2025.

Rosemont Services Andorra is pleased with the project which could make the Principality even more attractive and could be an incentive for residence in Andorra or the company formation in Andorra.
